Lyme and tick-borne diseases have reached epidemic proportions across the US, and the number of cases reported in Marin County continues to grow each year. Our panel of distinguished speakers will provide answers to pressing questions in the field of Lyme offering important health information, advice and support.

 

Award Winning Moderator:

Cheryl Jennings ABC7 News Anchor and Philanthropist

Emmy Award winner Cheryl Jennings is weekday co-anchor of ABC7 News at 11:00 a.m. and co-anchor of ABC7 News at 5:00 p.m. Cheryl also files special assignment news reports and is the host of the Emmy Award winning community affairs program, Beyond the Headlines.

 

Distinguished Panel:

Dan Salkeld, PhD:  Research Scientist, Dept of Biology, Colorado State University.  

Dr. Salkeld has been studying the community ecology of wildlife disease, particularly host-parasite systems, and the implications for conservation and public health. His postdoctoral work has focused extensively on Lyme disease in the woodland communities of California and the role of western gray squirrels as a reservoir host. Dr. Salkeld is a co-author, with Nate Nieto, of the highly publicized Bay Area Tick Study, documenting Borrelia bacteria prevalence in the greater Bay Area.

Sunjya Schweig, MD:  CEO and Co-Director of the California Center for Functional Medicine.  

Dr. Schweig is an expert in complex chronic illnesses, which require rigorous investigation and management. Dr. Schweig utilizes cutting edge diagnostic and treatment modalities that respect the complex interconnectedness of the body and the environment. He has been studying, teaching, and practicing integrative and functional medicine for over 20 years. Dr. Schweig recently partnered with Chris Kresser, Lac., to form the California Center for Functional Medicine (CCFM).

Kirsten Stein:  Lyme Patient, Parent, Marin County Business Owner  

A mother of two, business owner and a prolific community volunteer Kirsten became disabled from Lyme and co-infections over 9 years ago. She put her dreams on hold of an MBA (and more) until receiving the correct diagnosis in 2013. Recovery has been slow but significant. Today, she is focused on raising her children, maintaining her organizing business and writing on her terrifying experience, diagnosis, and healing process. Setting her sights on the future she will be taking steps to become a Health Coach, specializing in Lyme Disease. As a regular volunteer with the Bay Area Lyme Foundation she reflects “Lyme disease is what I have, but no longer defines who I am.”
